-A PHILOSOPHY FORGED OVER 48 YEARS-

THE MISSION
IS ALWAYS
THE MATERIAL.

Rick Montoya views the trade of aerospace welding as a discipline with the same moral weight as surgery — because in human-rated flight hardware, the consequences of contamination, of a cold crack invisible to the naked eye, of a compromised weld in a propulsion line, are measured in the same currency as a surgeon's mistake.

That philosophy is the reason Spacetron has maintained a zero-contamination record across every program it has touched — and the foundation on which the TRON E-Series, the advisory practice, and the Apprenticeship are all built.

Total immersion GTAW within TRON E-24

"Throughout my career, I've dedicated myself to mastering the art of aerospace welding — developing systems that protect welders, advance the trade, and ensure absolute integrity in every mission. My goal is to see this art evolve through automation, training the generations who will weld on the Moon, Mars, and beyond."

— Rick Montoya, Founder & Technical Authority

Zero contamination is not a target — it is the only acceptable result

Total immersion GTAW in a verified argon atmosphere is not a premium option. It is the minimum standard for any weld that will be trusted with human life. Every Spacetron system, process, and program engagement is built on this premise.

The material deserves the same respect as the mission

Titanium is not just a material with favorable properties. It is the defining material of the next century of human innovation. Understanding it — its behavior under heat, its reaction to atmosphere, its lifecycle under load — is the foundation of everything Spacetron does.

Mastery is transferred, not purchased

The knowledge Rick has accumulated across 48 years of flight programs cannot be acquired from a specification sheet or a standard. It can only be transferred — through direct engagement, through training, and through the demanding standard of independent verification.

-THE ORIGIN STORY-

IT BEGAN AT
AGE 17.

IT HAS NEVER
STOPPED.

Rick Montoya began his formal welding education at seventeen as a Welding Specialist in the United States Navy. What started as foundational discipline in precision metalwork became a lifelong pursuit of mastery in the most demanding fabrication environments on earth — and eventually, beyond it.

After the Navy, Rick certified as an ASME Section VIII & IX welder at the San Onofre Nuclear Power Plant — working on high-integrity nuclear piping assemblies where failure was not a permitted outcome. That standard — zero tolerance, independently verified — has defined every engagement since.

By 1975 he was a senior process developer at Metal Bellows, mastering exotic materials including titanium, Inconel, and nuclear piping assemblies. By 1982 he had founded Spacetron Corporation — and within years was building the closed-atmosphere systems that would qualify hardware for the Space Shuttle Endeavour.

The thread running through every chapter of that career is identical: the belief that when a human life depends on a weld, the environment in which that weld is made is not a variable. It is a constant. Total immersion. Zero contamination. Zero compromise

-CAREER CHRONOLOGY-

FROM THE NAVY
TO THE MOON.
THE FULL RECORD.

1967

Welding Specialist — United States Navy

Began formal welding education at age 17. Established foundational discipline in precision metalwork that would define a 48-year career.

1972

ASME VIII & IX Certified — San Onofre Nuclear Power Plant

Specialized in high-integrity nuclear piping assemblies where failure was not a permitted outcome — establishing the zero-tolerance quality standard.

1975

Senior Welder & Process Developer — Metal Bellows

Premier expert in titanium, Inconel, 321 stainless steel, and aluminum for bellows, ducting, and nuclear assemblies. The foundation of the reactive metal mastery that would define Spacetron.

1982

Founder & President — Spacetron Aerospace Welding Corporation

Built into a nationally recognized critical repair station. Served 16 defense and space programs across four decades. 36 consecutive years of zero audit findings under NADCAP AC7004 and AWS D17.1 Class A.

2005

Founder & President — Spacetron Metal Bellows Corporation

Lead provider of complex bellows assemblies and precision welded titanium structures for aerospace. Maintained the zero-defect standard through every engagement.

2023

Founder & Director of Manufacturing — Spacetron Titanium Chambers Co.

Directing the commercial launch of the TRON E-Series, the advisory practice, and the Art of Aerospace Welding Apprenticeship — bringing 48 years of flight-proven mastery to the companies building the next era of space access and permanence.

-THE HEART OF EVERY ROCKET-

PROPULSION.
THRUST.
HUMAN-RATED.
FLIGHT-PROVEN.

Rick's career has always centered on the components where failure is not recoverable — propulsion systems, thrust structures, hydrazine and helium fluid lines, and the flight-critical hardware that carries crew and mission together. These are not support structures. They are the heart of every launch vehicle.

Across 16 U.S. defense and space programs, Rick has fabricated, qualified, and certified the reactive metal components that sit closest to the propulsion source — where contamination, embrittlement, or a compromised weld joint carries consequences measured not in schedule days but in mission outcomes.

-IN RICK’S OWN WORDS-

THE VISION
FOR WHAT

COMES NEXT.

Rick Montoya- Technical Authority- Spacetron

On titanium as the defining material

"Titanium is the future — the defining material of the next century of human innovation. If American companies want to remain number one and successfully bring their innovations to fruition, there is no time to waste. The migration to titanium must happen now, and the skills gap must close."

On the standard

"Protect the integrity of the material and the weld. Begin with total immersion. End with zero contamination. The heart of every rocket is welded by someone — and that someone has to understand what they are holding in their hands."

On training the next generation

"My past apprentices are, and my future apprentices will be, masters in the art of aerospace and reactive metal GTAW. They will be trained with the same rigor as surgeons — restoring the prestige of aerospace welders as the finest craftspeople in America."

-WHERE THE MISSION GOES NEXT-

THREE WAYS
THE STANDARD
MOVES FORWARD.

Rick's current mission at Spacetron Titanium Chambers Co. is to ensure that the mastery he has built across 48 years does not remain locked to the programs that already benefited from it. Three vehicles. One standard.

-THE COMPANIES BEHIND THE CAREER-

THREE FIRMS.
ONE STANDARD.
48 YEARS.

Every company Rick has founded has been built on the same operational premise — that zero contamination is not a goal to work toward but a baseline to work from. Each venture applied that standard to a different dimension of reactive metal fabrication, and each one maintained perfect quality audit compliance throughout its operational life.
